Policy Questions

Public service requires balancing priorities that impact education, school safety, and community well-being. Candidates were asked to answer the following questions and provide a brief explanation for each response.

Will you advocate for policies that expand families’ access to high-quality public school options, including charter schools and 1882 partnerships (which allow school districts to collaborate with charter schools, universities, and nonprofits to expand educational opportunities), to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed? Yes

I believe education is the key to transforming lives and breaking cycles of poverty. Every child, regardless of background, deserves access to high-quality, free public education that sets them up for success. As a veteran educator and advocate, I am committed to policies that expand access to innovative educational options for all families in Fort Worth. Initiatives like 1882 partnerships, create diverse, flexible pathways for students. My experience as the founding principal of the Fort Worth Young Women's Leadership Academy and as a Crowley ISD School Board Trustee is a testament to my belief in the power of public-private partnerships to provide lasting, meaningful educational opportunities.

Will you actively support policies and initiatives that ensure high-quality schools have the public and political backing to exist, grow, and thrive as education options for families in our city? Yes

I will actively support policies and initiatives that ensure high-quality schools, whether traditional, charter, or innovative partnerships, have the public and political support to exist, grow, and thrive. I believe that every family deserves access to excellent educational options, and for that to happen, we must create a strong, supportive environment for schools to succeed. This includes securing resources, advocating for equitable funding and evaluation, as well as ensuring that schools have the autonomy and support they need to innovate and meet the diverse needs of students. I am committed to fostering an education ecosystem where high-quality schools are celebrated and sustained so every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Will you support policies to improve transportation access for charter school students, including expanding bus services and ensuring safer walking routes? Yes

I fully support policies that improve transportation access for charter school students, with safety as a top priority. Expanding public transit, enhancing Trinity Metro services, and making our city more walkable by adding sidewalks and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure are essential. I will advocate for city and state policies that ensure safe walking routes for students. Additionally, I’ll push for state funding to help cover transportation costs for charter and public schools. Ensuring safe school zones with crossing guards and police presence is vital. Ultimately, student safety and access to education are inextricably linked and I am committed to making Fort Worth a city where every child has safe, reliable transportation to succeed.

Will you ensure that charter school families have a voice in city policy discussions that impact education, facilities, and community resources? Yes

I believe every family, including charter school families, deserves a voice in shaping our city's education policies and resources. Parent involvement is key to student success, and I’m committed to creating a diverse Parent Advisory Committee that includes charter school families. This committee will provide feedback, inform policy decisions, and serve as ambassadors for their communities. Additionally, I’ll host regular town halls in District 6 to ensure all families, especially those in marginalized communities, can participate. Every family’s voice matters, and I’ll work to ensure those voices are heard in Fort Worth’s education discussions.

Do you support equitable access to city resources for charter schools, such as allowing access to vacant city-owned buildings and ensuring fair funding opportunities for facilities and infrastructure? Yes

I fully support equitable access to city resources for charter schools, including vacant city-owned buildings and fair funding for facilities. Education is essential to a thriving community, and every student deserves safe, high-quality learning environments. I am committed to exploring partnerships between the city, charter schools, and ISDs to make the best use of underutilized properties for educational needs. City government and schools must collaborate to ensure all students, regardless of school type, have access to well-equipped spaces. By leveraging resources and partnerships, we can create more opportunities for charter schools and build an equitable and accessible education system for all students in Fort Worth.

Will you support city initiatives to improve traffic and pedestrian safety around schools, including enforcement of school zones and investment in infrastructure like crosswalks and speed bumps? Yes

I fully support city initiatives to improve traffic and pedestrian safety around schools. Ensuring student safety is a top priority, and the city must provide effective infrastructure to protect children as they travel to and from school. This includes establishing school zones and investing in crosswalks, crossing guards, speed bumps, and other safety measures. I am committed to designating funds for these initiatives and collaborating with developers and school systems, both traditional and charter, to share costs. By being proactive, we can make streets safer for all students and give families confidence that their children are protected on the way to school. This is an investment in our future, and I will work to make it a reality.

Beyond general support, what specific actions will you take as a city council member to improve educational opportunities for all students, including those attending charter schools? (Open response)

I am committed to ensuring positive educational outcomes for all students, including those in charter schools. Education transforms lives and every child deserves access to high-quality education. With 24 years in public ed., a blue-ribbon awarded principal, and as a Crowley ISD school board trustee since 2015, I’ve seen the power of collaboration, innovation, and community engagement in achieving success. My experience as an educational policy director and Fort Worth Zoning Commissioner has given me a unique perspective on using public-private partnerships to improve education. If elected, I will advocate for policies that strengthen collaboration between the city, schools, and families, ensuring all students have the tools they need.
