Policy Questions

Public service requires balancing priorities that impact education, school safety, and community well-being. Candidates were asked to answer the following questions and provide a brief explanation for each response.

Will you advocate for policies that expand families’ access to high-quality public school options, including charter schools and 1882 partnerships (which allow school districts to collaborate with charter schools, universities, and nonprofits to expand educational opportunities), to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed? Yes

I believe that partnerships between school districts and charter schools represent a win-win situation. These effective collaborations can enhance educational quality, facilitate resource sharing, foster innovation, and create a more supportive and engaging learning environment for all students.

Will you actively support policies and initiatives that ensure high-quality schools have the public and political backing to exist, grow, and thrive as education options for families in our city? Yes

As a proud product of FWISD and a charter school parent, I am a strong supporter of public education. I am committed to advocating for the children and families of Fort Worth and will do everything I can to ensure their needs are met.

Will you support policies to improve transportation access for charter school students, including expanding bus services and ensuring safer walking routes? Yes

As the current council member, I have a proven track record of helping both FWISD and charter schools secure essential safety features for their campuses and the surrounding areas.

Will you ensure that charter school families have a voice in city policy discussions that impact education, facilities, and community resources? Yes

During my term, I have engaged with organized parent groups on several occasions to address their concerns and foster connections. This includes facilitating collaboration between Fort Worth Families Forward and the City’s Education Strategy Manager to explore potential opportunities for our public schools, parents, students, and the city.

Do you support equitable access to city resources for charter schools, such as allowing access to vacant city-owned buildings and ensuring fair funding opportunities for facilities and infrastructure? Yes

Yes, we as a city should treat all public schools equally.

Will you support city initiatives to improve traffic and pedestrian safety around schools, including enforcement of school zones and investment in infrastructure like crosswalks and speed bumps? Yes

As your councilwoman, I write a letter to every school principal in District 11 each year. In the upcoming school year, I will make it a priority to better inform school administrators that requests for safe routes to school—such as infrastructure improvements like sidewalks, crossing lights, and crosswalks—must originate from the schools themselves. We will then collaborate with the schools to ensure these projects are submitted and move forward effectively.

Beyond general support, what specific actions will you take as a city council member to improve educational opportunities for all students, including those attending charter schools? (Open response)

Upon my reelection, I plan to establish a Student Advisory Council for students in District 11. We are currently accepting interest forms and will begin soliciting applications this summer. Additionally, I am working on awarding five scholarships at the end of the summer for high school seniors who are heading to college. We are very excited about these upcoming opportunities!
